www.rayjanko.com For most businesses, there will be a budget that will dictate the extent of the initial website. This is where you really have to be careful with how you allocate that budget. Webmasters love to sell fancy Flash introductions. It allows them to get their creativity working and out there on display. They can also charge huge money for fancy stuff that can burn up a budget real quick. Usually the visitors to websites look to skip the Flash intros and get to the information (the reason they are there). I don't recommend the fancy Flash stuff until you can clearly see good reason for it, or simply want to show off and aren't concerned with the cost. Slow websites are not acceptable anymore. A long time ago in the dark ages of the dial-up Internet connection, slow was normal and few people knew the difference. Today, slow is the kiss of death for a website. The home page absolutely must load fast. If it doesn't load fast visitors will quit and go elsewhere unless you are the only show on the Internet, and that isn't likely, if it is you won't be for long. This is another reason to forget the fancy Flash intros, or large pictures that take a long time to load. Keep your website up-to-date and current in all areas. This seems obvious, but things get forgotten. If you change a staff member, get it done on your website immediately. Don't allow outdated offers. Don't allow items no longer available to be featured. Above all else, make sure to budget for the updates that will be necessary. I build nothing but custom designed websites. I do not and will not build a copy of 100,000 other websites (otherwise known as cookie-cutter websites). These websites are nothing more than cheap templates where all you do is add the information. The main reason for a custom created website is to ensure you never look cheap, outdated and the same as many others. Cheap and outdated happens when the masses move in the same direction and basically wear out design features and feel just to cut costs. Another reason for your own custom created website is that once you pay for it, you truly do own it. Nobody on the Planet will be allowed to use any part of it. This is very important because your website design features (backgrounds etc) can become the same as your logo in terms of recognition. Website development costs are impossible to quote generally. This is because every website is different, especially when every website I build is custom created. I will flat rate quote your project to maintain a budget without any surprises.
